1  Reporting of Biodiversity in Canada

Communicating biodiversity information is essential for decision-making, policy development, and public awareness. In this activity, we will evaluate and critique the reporting of biodiversity information in Canada. We will focus on the following reports:

  1. Living Planet Report Canada

  2. Biodiversity in Canada: Commitments and Trends

  3. State of the Great Lakes 2022

  4. State of Canada’s birds 2019

  5. Atlas des oiseaux nicheurs du Québec méridional

  6. Canadian biodiversity: ecosystem status and trends 2010

  7. The status of Human footprint in Alberta

Instructions

  1. Pick one of the reports listed above to evaluate.
  2. Get your group together and read the table of content of your chosen report carefully. You should spend about 5 minutes on this.
  3. List three contents to keep and three to remove from the report. You should spend about 10 minutes on this.
  4. Discuss your choices with your group members. Try to find similarities and divergences between your choices. You should spend about 25 minutes on this.
